THE POETRY FOUNDATION

This project design and concept aims to express the mission and purpose of the Poetry Foundation, which is “to raise poetry to a more visible and influential position in our culture. The Foundation seeks to be a leader in shaping a receptive climate for poetry by developing new audiences, creating new avenues for delivery, and encouraging new kinds of poetry.” Poetry is captivating, and this design aims to represent that aspect of poetry. The main idea of this project is to relate what has been achieved in the past to the present and the future. This building connects the reality of the world to the innovation, imagination, and creativity of poetry. This Poetry Foundation Project is designed in such away to bring the creativity and uniqueness of poetry to a place of consistency and regularity in Riverside. The most influential aspects that inspired this project are the ideas of how poetry is open, inviting, old, new, and inspiring. The idea that poetry creates a sense of insight and imagination plays into the reason behind the design of this project. These ideas are free and meant to travel into newness and originality from what is already existing. This project takes the freedom and creativity aspects of poetry and produces something that breaks from the consistency of what is around it. Poetry is often like a seed; it has to die in order to bring forth something new and beautiful. This project aims to do precisely that in Riverside.
