Architects can take many different approaches when designing a home, but the idea of home remains the same regardless of the design. This is the idea that a home is a place of belonging and safety. Every person deserves to have a place where they can feel secure and comforted. Because the homeless population can't afford to rent an apartment or pay a mortgage on a house, they have no security, belonging, or peace, and they have every right to experience these basic needs of life. Tiny homes have become very popular and allow people of all socio-economic levels to have a place of belonging. This tiny home design is meant to utilize functional use of space while incorporating all the necessities of a home. The approach for this project was to create a space that used up minimal ground space while still creating an open floor plan. The two-story floor plan of this design allows for more privacy within the tiny home and maximizes site use by having a smaller footprint. This offers another alternative to affordable housing while being aesthetically pleasing. The selection of the white wood material for the tiny homes connects the home to the community pavilion in the center of the site. The sloping of the roof also funnels and encourages community within the enclosed park space. The spacing between the tiny homes is ideal for the number of houses and creating space and privacy for each individual home.
